Jørgen Hedegaard zu Never Ask for Help: Hi It's true, and even danes who move from one part of the contry to another have the problem ! Danes live and stay in one place, there "hometown", only exception is Copenhagen (people come to this town, if they have money :-( ). I have lived in different places in Denmark (and Germany), and I feel like a foreigner here myself. All Best Jørgen Hedegaard

Gerd Gerhard Loeffler zu Coffee Flowers 2008: @gowing down of europe: If we consider the Hippie-idea as the strongest in the western world I do not woder why europe is going down!

Gerd Gerhard Loeffler zu Coffee Flowers 2008: @downfall of europe (again): Maybe the fact that capitalism bought the hippie-idea was the biggest mistake the hippies could ever make. They sold out their ideals, didn't they? @production: I'm not sure if production is the actual key to a society. In my opinion the eastern countries produced quite well. The stuff just worked. Try that with China's stuff...

Smoerrebroed

I went to my first Smoerrebroed and aquavit experience, at a very traditional danish place. One little pumpernickel with butter and liverpate and ham, 2 aquavits, a coffee, it tasted very good, but -> 250,-kronen, 30,-€ (60,-Deutschmark!), Simply not possible to eat out. Too bad. In Vienna I would have paid around 10,-€. Anyhow, there were pictures of the royal family all over. I was particularly impressed by an image of the king and his lifeguard 1945 with hundreds of miniatur photos of different soldiers. From a distance it looks like paillettes or fabric. We spoke about the importance of timing in life.

Jürgen about the Danish Character

Jürgen said that in Copenhagen there are no high buildings. Modern architecture has only been around for 10 years. Copenhagen should decide if it wants to live in the past or present. He said that in Scandinavia there is more heavy drinking among kids than elsewhere and parents are not very strict in his experience. In general Scandinavian kids are educated more liberal than continental chidren and have less respect of their parents than e.g. in Germany says Jürgen. He wants to stop tattooing in 2 years when he is 60, and then go into antiques dealing. We talked about Art Deco in Vienna and Munich. Very nice person, relaxed and open, and for sure has seen a lot. Jürgen said that in comparison to Germans Danish people are more open, and invite you sooner to their house, also in a sexual sense. Well, I had made that experience already twice. The second day here I met this guy, he showed me around Christiania, we watched a video, and when I left he shouted a couple of times “Why don’t you want to sleep with me?”

Vampires and Tattoos

Went with Ivan to the legendary tattoo shop ”Tattoo Ole” on Nyhavn17, that has been around for almost 100 years. Ole, is a name and not the Spanish Ole, what I thought originally. We spoke with Jürgen, who has been tattooing here for more than 30 years. Brigitte Nielsen had a tattoo made here – an eagle - and also the Danish king… wow! So tattoos must really have a tradition here. We talked about sailors getting tattoos and Ivan said tattoos represent memories, wishes, hopes and that rational people do not get tattoos. Mmhh. The other guy in the shop had artificial Vampire teeth. Ivan, who actually looks much more like what you expect from a Vampire, and the guy talked about Vampirism and seduction etc.. Ivan is originally from Montenegro in former Yugoslavia and said that there actually had been this guy who drank blood and for some time after corpses got nailed to the coffins to prevent Vampirism.

Kasperletheater

Yesterday I was in the local bar here in Christiania called “Woodstock” with Janne and Ivan who are visiting from Berlin. What a scene! Just the name of the bar! Suddenly a guy appeared with a Kaperle-hat (transl.: jesper-hat -?). He danced with a girl with brown curls and he had his upper body leaning towards the floor, the hands swinging. Then he vomited and the curly girl just cleaned it very quick with a paper towel and continued dancing. Lots of hardcore alcoholics. We felt like being in a timewarp in the 80s and like watching TV. Two guys asked me for fire for their cigarettes, but it was more a kind of stoneage-grunt, Ivan thought things here seemed reduced to the archaic. Afterwards we went to ‘the other bar’ – Nemoland, more a rockertype place, which we didn’t like. The vegetarian Restaurant just around my place here actually is quite nice, more reasonable prices, good food. I would like to attend a meeting here in Christiania.

kronen, kronen, kronen

Puh! Again spent so much money today just on buying food and some small electronical devices. Way too expensive to eat out. I guess I will cook lots of rice, beans, chicken and invite people. Mika told me that the high prices devide the people into 2 categories: The people who can eat out and the people who can not.

Engrained Houses

Martin and Christian told me about Vega, ‘the’ club here for electronical music in an old socialist house with a strong tradition. I was thinking of houses that you cannot imagine anywhere else and tht are somehow engrained in a place. I suppose Ungdomhuset was something like that. Some nights ago when I could not sleep I watched videos of Ungdomshuset and razzia in Christiania.

Cathead

Today a young hippie-like woman came walking towards me who had the head of a cat on her cot or at least it looked like it when I had a quick glance t it while she passed.

Elephants and Mice

Kristines mother told me that there are lots of jokes in Copenhagen about elephants and mice. She also mentioned the 2 stone elephants at the old Carlsberg brewery and that I should visit it. I asked Christian and Martin and they did not know about the elephant and mouse jokes.

More German than Germans?

One of the first things that struck me about Danes was their looks. So many extremely blond people, with broad cheekbones, clear blue eyes and tall seize. It reminded me a bit maybe of the prejudice of some people I met in the US and Canada towards the look of Germans…

Maelkeboetten II

A bit of frustration with the place here in terms of cleanness, equipment, dampness etc. Did some cleaning and organising and put stuff in the 2nd room which is filled with lots old stuff and not usable. Feel a bit isolated here. Am not being used to living alone. I have 4 friends in Copenhagen, Kristine, Mikka, Jan, Thomas, and a good starting working relation to Christian and Martin, but - what do CRIR-people do who do not have friends in Copenhagen? Hang out at Woodstoock? Ivan suggested to scream in the courtyard for 5 minutes.
